Some people do spend their entire lives together

It was a cold wintry day in Delhi in January 2011.91 year old Asha was sitting on a bench outside her home. All alone. She had tears in her eyes as she looked at a picture in hand.It was a old black and white picture of a young man say in his twenties. He looked handsome, smart and lively"I know I am never going to see him again. But so what?I have loved him all my life and his memories are enough for me to spend whatever years or months or days are left with me."She thought to herself and placed her wrinkled fingers on his face in the picture.

In her minds thousand pictures just ran across..

It was1941.
She was doing her BA in English literature.Once while coming back from the market her younger brother was hit by a car.It was  a Sunday and no doctors wre seen.So she rushed him to the nearest hospital and his life was saved, thanks to Dr.Rajesh for his quick treatment.Dr Rajesh was a new doctor in the town.He had studied from London and had come down to India to serve his people"Dont worry about the money.I know your father ..Mr.Prakash right?.You can pay money whenever possible"He told Asha" Right now your brother just needs rest. Its a small fracture ,but he should not go to school at least for the next few days"
She was moved not just by his kindness and skill, but also by his personality. He was  a young man of around 25.Tall,extremely fair and ever smiling. But more that anything she noticed his beautiful eyes. They were translucent, black as if made of glass and sparkled whenever he spoke.

Rajesh came to treat her brother a few more of times after the accident, sometimes to change the plaster or sometimes to change his medicine. And everytime Asha saw him,her heart skipped a beat. Then she again met him in her friend Kamala's wedding where he was friend of the groom. And man how lovely he looked in the sherwani. No wonder he was surrounded by all girls from the most rich affluent families of Delhi."I dont think I stand a chance"She thought to herself as she fit some flowers in her long braided  black hair

It so happened that Asha's father got a transfer in the town of Madras in South India, which we now know as Chennai. Also it was a transfer on promotion and Asha's father happily took it.Life changed.Everything changed. She could no longer see Rajesh. She could not even tell him how she felt. The only memory she had of him was a photograph of him in Kamala's wedding which she had manged to sneak.

Time was running and all that Asha's parents wanted was to find a suitable groom for her.Their neighbors had already suggested a boy for her.He too was from Delhi, well educated belonged to a great family. His parents came ,met Asha and really liked her and they didn't even ask for a dowry. In those days girl and boy never met before they got married

Some where in the corner of mind she still missed being with Rajesh.But..yes that was the end of it.."Probably we were never meant to be"She thought to herself as she took the saat pheras. She looked more beautiful than ever today. She was wearing a red bridal saree and her long black hair complemented her milky white complexion

As she reached her in laws house in Delhi ,that was the first time she saw her husband.Smiling ..beaming..seeming really happy when he saw his beautiful bride. Her heart fluttered once again..as if it was jumping with joy.She felt it would jump out of her body as she saw those same twinkling translucent eyes.
Yes,she was married to Dr.Rajesh.He was so much in love with her that he sent a proposal to her parents.Asha could not have asked for more.

They settled in Delhi where Asha started being a English Literature lecturer and they had 2 wonderful children.an Engineer son who settled in USA and a daughter ..doctor just like her father who got married to a Doctor from Bombay and settled there.

After finishing  more than 50 years of marriage and many lovely memories, in 2010 Rajesh passed away due to old age.His last words were"Remember.whether it is earth or heaven..I ll be always there with you..Because of you I knew how to Love"...

Asha had tears in her eyes when she remembered these words ,3 months after the death of Rajesh today in January 2011 as she stared at his picture."I will always love you too"..she thought to herself as she breathed her last..and left for heavenly abode..
