The first chakra called root chakra or base chakra is located at the very base of spine very much at our groin area. Root chakra is called ' Muladhara' in sanskrit which literally means base support
Root chakra opens downward connecting the energy body to the earth.
We know that all chakras spin at a rate. The one at the base spins at slowest rate
It is deep red in colour almost like a beautiful shade of ruby.The deep red colour signifies passion or strength. A well balanced root chakra is sparkling red in colour whereas an imbalanced chakra is muddy red
Root chakra is concerned with the issues of survival and physical security and is affected by feelings of
1) Money and Finance
2) Job ,Business and Career
3) Buying Property
4) Materialistic possesions
5) Physical security
In short it is to do with thoughts about' Roti, Kapda aur Makaan'
It helps us get grounded

Legs, feet, bladder, kidney, lower back and Spine
Physical health issues:
Problem with this chakra can cause health issues relating to the ankles, knees, feet, calves.
An imbalanced root chakra can also result in constipation, haemerroids(piles/fissures)
Mental and emotional issues
The basic problem if this chakra is imbalanced can be insecurity- the basic fear of failure or not being able to survive in this competitive world.It affects confidence in people.

According to ancient Hinduism, Lord Ganesha governs this chakra.In the Ganapati Atharvashirsha(A Prayer to the elephant headed god Ganesh) it is mentioned as " Muladharo sthitosi nityam" which means Oh dear lord who always resides at the muladhara chakra in the body
Archangel Sandalphon is associated with this chakra, who acts as a messenger to God
Ways to heal the rooot chakra
1) Think Red; a meditation or visualization imagining one's body in pure deep red ray can help.Also you can wear red clothes or include more red colour in your wardrobe,accessories house furniture etc
2) Eat Red coloured fruits and vegetables ; eg: beetroot, pomegranate, red leafy vegetables, tomatoes etc can help
3) Reiki / Energy healing
4) Hug a tree, it helps us get grounded
5) A relaxing tub bath can help.Use bath salts if you like, also can use aromatheraphy.You can specially try foot massages
6) Yoga and pilates can be very useful to heal this chakra.Some useful posed could be parvatasana(mountain pose) and Veerbhadra asan( the warrior pose).Surya namaskars in general is very good for all chakras balancing
